Tony Whatley – Starting A Side Hustle; Building A Community
Show Notes

If you think you don’t have time for success, you are making excuses.

Tony Whatley has been growing businesses and communities for decades. When he graduated high school, his parents gave him two options: get a job to pay for college or join the military. His hardworking family always pushed him to be better, regardless of his financial limitations.

By working part-time jobs on top of his 40 hour week, Tony generated the extra income he needed to succeed. He has started and sold multiple multimillion-dollar businesses and now teaches others to never settle for anything less than the life they want.

Episode Highlights

07:54 – Start a Side Hustle – Working 40 hours a week is only part-time for an entrepreneur. Learn to manage your spare time and stop making excuses.

15:06 – Building Successful Relationships – Tony builds communities within businesses. By harnessing common interests and engaging over email, he built relationships, not a social media following.

16:58 – Be a Community Member – The best way to grow your community is to be a part of it. As a consumer, you will see growth opportunities. As a leader, you can monetize those opportunities.

25:29 – Don’t Monetize Too Soon – Offer your community quality content and a sense of belonging. Don’t degrade the user experience by choosing the finances over what will benefit your brand long term.

34:36 – Build a Personal Community For Success – You are the product of your surroundings.  Find good people who strive for a better future and move on from those who live in the past.

“You don't have to want to do it. You don't need the motivation to do it. Try to focus on the results instead, and things will start to make sense.” Tony Whatley
